Neighborhood Elections

Posted by FGH on October 22, 2012 at 12:50 AM Comments comments (0)

There was no candidate for Secretary. So, voters may write-in the name of any person a voter chooses, provided that person lives within the neighborhood boundries. If the write in candidate agrees to do the job they will become the new Secretary. If there are more than one write in for Secretary the person with the most votes wins if they agree to take the job. For questions about Neighborhood Officer elections and voting qualifications, procedures, or voting rights please contact the City of Birmingham; Community Resource Office.

An essential desire to help promote this educational, as well as, family fun event was extended; because of the willingness of the neighborhood associations to help make this event successful through financial contributions, we can announce that all attendees will enjoy “free” rides and games on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 6:00p.m. – 9:00p.m. at the East Lake Park.

Mayor Bell to Visit Neighborhood, again.

Posted by FGH on February 18, 2012 at 8:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Hello Neighbors,

Please do not forget that our February RSHPS monthly meeting is scheduled for 02/28/12 at Gabrella Manor. The meeting starts at 7:00PM, but as always there’s a social gathering starting at 5:30 (and yes, the cash bar is open!).

Our special guest speaker will be the Honorable William Bell Mayor of Birmingham. Mayor Bell and his family had a great time during the Roebuck Springs Historic Holiday Home Tour, and as a result, agreed to stop by again to share his thoughts and plans for our community and the eastern area.

Additional guests for the evening are Captain Hatcher of our police department and Officer Tony Barnwell, who is retiring after a nearly twenty years tenure as our neighborhood day-shift officer.

Also, Roebuck Springs Neighborhood Association President, Frank Hamby will introduce our Neighborhood Watch Monitor, Jack Harshburger and the block captains for that program.

Jill will be presenting our RSHPS Board and “City/Neighborhood Committee” to our fellow residents, Mayor Bell, Captain Hatcher, and Frank Hamby.

This is a VERY IMPORTANT MEETING FOR THE NEIGHBORHHOD. A good turnout will show the Mayor that we are an active and involved community that wants to be a part of the city’s plan to move forward.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all there.

Burglary Deterrent Checklist (by Officer Baker)

Posted by Roebuck Springs/South Roebuck Neighborhood Association on June 1, 2011 at 12:34 AM Comments comments (0)

  1. Lock your doors: find a new and more creative location for "hide-a-keys"
  2. Dead bolt locks: double key entry for windowed doors. Make sure screws go all the way into the frame of the home.
  3. Storm door or security door that opens outward
  4. Draw ground level curtains while away
  5. Motion activated lights (they even scare me sometimes and I'm the good guy)
  6. 3 cars for a 2 car family
  7. Keep a light on; not the same one
  8. Timers for appliances: TV, radio, or lamps
  9. Garage window covers
  10. Mail and news paper recovery while away: includes phone books and packages
  11. Dog
  12. Take down and make copies of every serial number on every item. Take photos of valuables such as jewelry. Find a special marker or engraver.
  13. Alarm system: glass break is 95% good alarm
  14. Reputable workers inside the home. Be careful who you invite in. Don't let people wander. Close doors at parties.
  15. Cameras: game style motion activated hunting cameras are cheap and work great.
  16. Observe and report suspicious activity
Special Considerations: Burglars don't like confrontation. If you are at home when a stranger knocks on the door, make it known you are at home (don't go hide in the closet). Yell out "go away, I'm calling the police."

If you are the victim of a burglary, check your phone. Se who called to see if you were home.

EMERGENCY: Dial 911
Non-Emergency: 205-328-9311
East Precinct: 205-254-2685
